PRE-K GRADUATION

Another mile stone has come and gone.....

Finn graduated from Pre-K this week!

We have enjoyed every minute of Finn's time at Carlsbad Montessori.  The thought of leaving his teachers, the director, the parents and all of Finn's friends about does me in.  I tear up even now as I write this, Finn started here at two!!!

Todd keeps reminding me that this is the natural progression of Finn's education.  I will say goodbye to this chapter and look forward to the new chapter awaiting Finn in the Fall.

EXPLORER 200

Looking for
inexpensive Summer fun?
For $19.95 and impressive lung power you can have fun in the Ocean or Pool with the Explorer 200!  Not sure where you can find one.....Toys R Us or Big Lots.
Off he goes to explore the Pacific,
NOT!!

Kayla and Finn enjoying the Explorer 200 before the official launch.  If you don't have access to a Pool or Ocean it makes a great place to eat your lunch or dinner.
Official Launch by Girl Power

The launch was successful!  I was most impressed with their ability to climb in once they were in deeper water.  I would still be hanging onto the side.....

Now I am starting to worry....how far are they going to paddle?  I don't think the Explorer 200 is rated for a trip across the Pacific to Catalina Island.  Wonder if I should have told them that before they launched.....

Part II - Pool Launch
After picking up Carmel Machiato's & Coffee's at It's a Grind, we headed home to try the boat out in the pool.

Perfect fit!

FLAG DAY MY WAY

Can you guess what I am doing?
I am sewing American Flags on
Finn & Todd's shirts for tomorrow.
Yes....it is Flag Day June 14th!
Time to bring out the flags and American Patriotic Swag!

I pulled the Sewing Machine out after I put Finn to bed,  Finn personally went and picked out his own patch at our local Military Surplus store.....I can't wait to show him the finished results in the morning.

Now on to Todd's work shirt.....
I felt so domestic this evening!
Trying on my hubby's shirt to make sure the flag was centered, Perfectly aligned!

He loved it....tomorrow both my boys with venture out in the world proudly showing off their American Flags, don't forget to put out your flags!  For those of you who don't know, Flag Day Observance encourages visual displays of the American Flag for the entire week.

Forever May you Wave

LIGHT

This time of year when the clock hits 4pm, the afternoon light filters through my living room windows and envelopes all it touches with a warmth and richness!  Needless to say, I love being in my living room at this time of day.

We were getting ready to leave for a late afternoon/early evening dinner at the beach.....we were waiting on Finn's father who couldn't find his fishing tackle, sigh.....Typical!  As I entered the living room Finn was cast in the afternoon glow enveloping the room, for once he wasn't pestering us to hurry or whine about where his beach toys were....he was just leaning against the wall in the golden light.

I will remember this image always....but in case I forget it was digitally captured for the ages!

It's that time of year,
open your windows,
let the sunshine in!

8th Grade Graduation

Has it really been three years since Kirra started at Roosevelt Middle School?  This is just going way too fast for me!  After today she is a FRESHMAN!!
And here come the graduates...
can you spot Kirra?
(hint: black dress, tons of Orchid Lei's)

National Anthem sung by the Wildcat Choir

Papa instructing Finn on the proper placement of hand over heart during the Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance!

Kirra accepting the Principals Award for a 4.0 GPA for all THREE years at Roosevelt!  Is she amazing or what?

Proud Sister & Grandmother of the Graduate.....just thinking about doing this next year for Kayla makes my eyes start to tear up!
My favorite photo of the day.......Kirra looks gorgeous and Finn & Uncle Todd look extremely proud of Kirra.  I just know her Father was looking down upon his beautiful daughter with pride and happiness on this special day.

The Entire Bunch
Kirra has an amazing support group!
Sister in laws of 16 years!

Emily - Kirra - McKenna - Hayley - Friend  - Heather

Kirra has been blessed with an amazing group of friends in her grade level, most of them together since Empressa Elementary days.  They are sweet, intelligent,  strong, beautiful young woman that have a great influence on Kayla and even young Finn, for this I am thankful.  My silent wish......let Finn be surrounded by a similar group of friends for his journey through his school years!

To Kirra - The world is waiting for you, I know you will grab hold with both hands and never let go!!  Whether you become a doctor, writer, teacher, middle school Principal.......you will achieve it and succeed.  We love you dear girl!!  May all your dreams come true.

MIDNIGHT GRUNION RUN

While all of you were settling into a deep sleep Saturday night, we were loading the boys, buckets and flashlights into the car for a midnight Grunion Run.

Ever done this before?
Know what a Grunion is?

A little Marine Biology lesson for you.......Grunion are known in California for their unusual mating ritual during high tides when the females come up on to sandy beaches where they dig their tails into the sand to lay their eggs. The male then wraps himself around the female to deposit his sperm and for the next ten days the grunion eggs remain hidden in the sand. At the next set of high tides the eggs hatch and the young grunion are washed out to sea.  (Never thought I would use the word sperm in my blogging).

Finn and Tiago hugging it out before we hit the dark beach, they had no idea what to expect!
At first Finn was scared and stayed close to shore with the bucket.  I put him in charge of the red flashlight, trying to keep his mind off the darkness and the high tide.

I shared many Grunion runs as a child with my father and love that I get to share the same midnight fun with my own son.

I am impressed with myself as well as with Devon at how well we dressed the boys at such a late hour!
Flashlight at ready,
keeping a lookout for the Grunions!

Todd caught the first one!!

Tiago &  Uncle Todd running through the surf looking for silvery flashes as the tide recedes.

Look what washed up on the beach, an actual "Minute to Win It" Game, complete with the ball!  I kept it, cleaned it and will have all the dads try to "Win It" at my home on Father's Day.  Wonder who will win?  I will keep you posted!
Tiago's first catch of the night,
I love his little hands in this photo.

Uncle Todd helping Tiago hold tight to his fish,
they are very slippery and flip their bodies crazily.

Woo Hoo!  Devon's catch of the day, she wouldn't let Todd keep it for bait, she released hers back to the Sea.

Victory!  My son finally jumped into the fun and caught his first Grunion.  His father announced that he was finally a true Viking Warrior fisherman, just like Tiago!

Our Grunion hunting wrapped up around 1am, we kept a few.......Finn wanted them to ride next to him on the car ride home.  He talked to them the entire way home, he had no idea they were destined for the freezer to be used later as Todd's Halibut fishing bait.

We had a fabulous family evening under the stars...running through the surf, giggling and loving Todd's brilliant idea to enjoy our local Grunion Run!  For those of you wondering, we did sleep in Sunday morning, we earned it!!

P.S.  Devon has more photo's of this evening posted on her blog.http://www.devonpato.blogspot.com/
